Connecticut Republican Party Chair Ben Proto spoke to News 12 about President Biden's decision to not seek reelection.
Proto says the decision was not a surprise to him, given the pressure Biden has faced from Democrats since his debate performance.
He believes the pressure for Biden to exit the race became so intense that he had no choice but to do so.
Regarding former President Donald Trump and Republicans, Proto says they will likely continue to focus on issues and topics that Vice President Kamala Harris worked on during her time in office.
"Donald Trump is going to continue to talk about the border continue to talk about the economy inflation continue to talk about crime those issues don't go away because Biden is not the candidate. In fact if Kamala Harris is the candidate they probably grow exponentially because she's failed particularly at the southern border, which is the only job Joe Biden gave her," he says.
Proto says although it is too early to see how this news will impact state races, he and fellow state Republicans will continue to talk about issues that impact residents, including tax increases, crime and safety.
