A state police trooper has been suspended over a crash that happened while returning from a retirement party held at a brewery in Southbury, police say.
Officials say Sgt. John McDonald surrendered his badge until the investigation into the crash is complete.
He was suspended with pay.
The driver of the other car is suing McDonald, and claims he was drunk at the time of the crash in September.
Officials say police on the scene did not test McDonald for DUI immediately because he was hurt.
Police are investigating why McDonald's blood was not drawn at the hospital once he arrived.
