The CT United Ride, the state's largest annual 9/11 tribute that was supposed to take place Sunday, has been canceled due to expected severe weather and possible unsafe conditions, organizers said.

According to its website, there is no rain date due to the significant requirements for multiple permits involved with the event.

The motorcycle ride honors those who died in the line of duty and who served following 9/11.

The ride was supposed to begin at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport and end at Seaside Beach in Bridgeport. Local fire and police departments also participate each year.

Proceeds benefit the family emergency relief funds for police officers and firefighters, as well as two local United Way nonprofits.
