Darien police say a woman faced a judge today for allegedly stealing more than $800,000 from the National Veterans Services Fund.
Police say Cynthia Tanner took the money over five years while working as a bookkeeper. They say the money was supposed to go to veterans and their families, but Tanner allegedly used the funds to pay for vacations and her auto loan.
While the National Veterans Services would not comment on the allegations, they released a statement saying that the situation came to light after some questionable entries were found during internal auditing.
Tanner's bond has been set at $500,000.
