A Danbury man was charged in connection to a deadly vehicle crash in Newtown, according to officials.

Alexis Salazar, 19, was speeding as he crashed into a tree on Berkshire Road on Aug. 24, police say.

Officials say a Ford Mustang GT was heading west as the vehicle approached the intersection of Zoar Road. Salazar drove straight, striking a tree.

Mary Cordero, 19, of Danbury, was pronounced dead on scene, according to police.

Three other passengers, alongside Salazar, were transported to Danbury Hospital for their injuries. Two were critically injured.

Salazar turned himself in on an arrest warrant Tuesday.

He was released on a $300,000 bond.
