Some residents want to forever silence horns that have been used by the Darien Volunteer Fire Department for 112 years.
More than 200 people near the Post Road firehouse have signed a petition to put the two horns out of use. The petition was delivered to First Selectwoman Evonne Klein.
"I watch people throw their pizzas in the air, spill their coffee," said a business owner. "It's so startling, babies start to cry. It's awful and I don't understand why it blows four times every time."
Fire Department President Dan Anderson maintains the horns are only used as a backup when pagers fail or firefighters are in "dead" pager zones.
He said he has yet to be contacted about the petition.
