Investigators are sorting out a deadly accident involving a car and a fire truck in Bridgeport Tuesday.
The fire truck was responding to an emergency call when it hit 58-year-old Gwendolyn Little?s car at the intersection of Congress Street and Housatonic Avenue, police said.
Little was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her mother, Essie Williams, 77, remains in critical condition.
A witness to the accident says neither driver seemed to know the other was there and that the fire truck was going through the intersection too fast.
However, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Petrucelli says that's not the case. He says the firefighter who was driving saw cars stopping at the red light and drove into the intersection. The firefighter reported that a car suddenly appeared in front of him when they crashed.
Bridgeport police are investigating and expect to have a report in two weeks.
