The owner of a Stamford day care center was arraigned Tuesday in the death of a 2-month-old baby.
Nydia Carrillo-Maldonado, the owner of Little Bear Beginnings, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor in the death of Bella Redondo under her care.
It was revealed in court that Maldonado has no prior arrest history. Her husband of nine years was in the courtroom and did not wish to comment when he came outside.
Last month, police were called to the day care center in reference to a 2-month-old baby that had trouble breathing. It was later ruled that the baby's death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
"She admitted to no fault. Obviously, I think we have enough medical evidence and probable cause to bring it over to a prosecutor which contradicts her theory," says Stamford police Lt. Diedrich Hohn.
Maldonado's bond was set at $200,000. She is due back in court on Aug. 25.
