As construction on the water filtration plant in Van Cortlandt Park continues, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is working to alleviate residents? concerns.
Some residents say the construction of the plant is causing pollution in the area. The DEP designed special filters for the trucks to prevent asthma-causing pollution. Those filters will be installed by April.
Another issue that concerns Bronx is the amount of jobs the plant will bring the area. State Assemblyman Jeffery Dinowitz (D-BX) says out of the 124 workers at the plant only 37 are Bronx residents. The DEP says it plans to increase that number in the next two phases of the project.
DEP officials add hundreds of individual air quality tests near Van Cortlandt Park have been conducted. There are no officials results from the tests yet.
