After months of consistently high prices, the cost of gas has started to decrease in southwestern Connecticut.
Some local stations, such as the Phillips 66 near the intersection of Main Street and Barnum Avenue in Stratford, are now charging less than $3 a gallon, down from highs of more than $4.
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas has decreased 5 cents since Monday. Three months ago, the average price was $4.39 a gallon.
Peter Beutel, an energy analyst at Cameron Hanover, says it is likely the price of gas in southwestern Connecticut could dip to $2.65 a gallon by the end of the month.
