As protests continue nationwide and in Connecticut, some worry that they might cause a spike in COVID-19 cases despite many regions seeing a downward trend.
Dr. Michael Parry, the head of infectious disease at Stamford Hospital, says at many of the recent protests, people are not practicing social distancing or even wearing personal protective equipment.
He says PPE and good hand washing have truly reduced the number of infections. Parry says we must be vigilant and can't relax, or the virus may get worse.
Bridgeport protesters shut down parts of Route 8 and I-95 over the weekend. Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim says the public is better prepared for coronavirus than a few months ago, but can't rest on our laurels.
Ganim says he encourages the continued use of all PPE at public gatherings.
Parry says he believes a vaccine for COVID-19 is still far away, probably closer to the end of next year.
