A driver died this Thanksgiving after crashing into the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, according to police.

The say the mid-20s male was driving a Honda Accord south on Main Street around 2:10 p.m. when he lost control and crashed into the front of the arena, causing serious damage to the building.

Police say speed was a factor and that the driver was the vehicle's sole occupant.

The driver was pulled from the vehicle and taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he later died.

There were no Thanksgiving events scheduled at the arena.

The driver's identity was being withheld pending family notification.
