Police say a Stamford man died last night following a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer at a rest stop on southbound Interstate 95 in Fairfield.
Officials say 40-year-old Joseph Pierson was killed when his car slammed into the back of the tractor-trailer. The truck was parked along the shoulder of the entranceway into the rest stop, an area trucks are not allowed to park.
It is the second such accident in less than two weeks. On Dec. 1, a driver lost control of a vehicle and crashed into the cab of a truck at an I-95 rest stop in Fairfield. The truck's driver was killed.
Officials say that trucks are only supposed to park in designated spaces, but trucking advocates argue that there is nowhere else for trucks to park due to a lack of designated spots.
