Police say an 8-year-old boy was struck by a car on Stamford's West Side Thursday night.
Authorities say the driver was traveling faster than the 25 mph speed limit on Virgil Street before striking the child.
Mannan Abdul, a neighbor who witnessed the crash around 6 p.m., called 911 and tried his best to help the boy.
Police say they gave the 8-year-old boy a verbal warning for being in the street.
Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher says it is important for parents to tell their children about the dangers of being in the street.
"We have to keep an eye on them, and if they do not obey our direction and they're acting in a reckless behavior, they've got to be disciplined or given time out," says Sgt. Gallagher.
Police say the boy was taken to Stamford Hospital with cuts and bruises, and needed stitches on his face and head, but is expected to be OK.
News 12 is told he was kept in the hospital overnight for observation.
Police say they ticketed the driver for going over the speed limit.
