Drivers on a busy interstate teamed up for the risky rescue of a dog Friday morning.
Rush hour was getting underway on I-84 in Danbury when drivers spotted the beagle named Lupe. Troopers say Lupe got loose from his home the night before.
The drivers used their cars to shut down the highway on their own. A K-9 officer then used her gear to get the dog and bring it to the vet.
“They actually had the highway shut down when she got there, they actually had the dog corralled, so a bunch of good Samaritans did help out, which is amazing,” says Trooper Christopher Costella, of Troop A, Southbury.
Police gave those drivers credit for stopping to save the dog, but they said it would be safer to call 911 as the highway is busy that time of day.
