There was a mixed reaction Monday morning from Metro-North commuters about the work being done on the East Norwalk train station.
It's a long-term construction project that crews are still working on since the station reopened Saturday. Commuters say they are glad it’s back open but are anticipating the next closure.
"Nice to have it back," said one commuter.
The construction is related to the Walk Bridge Replacement Project.
Josh Morgan, with Connecticut Department of Transportation, says crews demolished the existing north platform, constructed a temporary platform and installed access ramps for the future construction of the new station.
When it's done, the station will have new six-car platforms on both sides along with improved parking and drop-off loops. It will be closing again next year. "[I’m] looking forward to it being over honestly," said Andrew Kaplan, from Norwalk.
This is the second time this year the station was closed for three weeks. The state DOT says the more closures are coming next fall and in the summer of 2027. Commuters were able to travel on a free shuttle to use the South Norwalk Train Station.
