Easton residents are waking up to a new first selectman this morning.

Republican Dan Lent defeated Democratic Selectman Nick D'Addario by just five votes after a recount Tuesday night.

The race was so close on Election Day it triggered the recount, with officials spending hours reviewing thousands of ballots.

Previous unofficial results had Lent ahead by six votes. Sources say D'Addario picked up one vote during the recount, narrowing Lent's win to five votes.

"There's a lot of people who have done a lot of work, and we're standing on their shoulders now," Lent said. "We just have to keep it going in the right direction and work together."

Election officials say three freshly programmed and tested tabulators were used during the recount, and every precaution was taken to ensure a secure process.
