A debate is brewing in Easton over a proposal to sell 29 acres of land to Sacred Heart University.
The Board of Selectmen met with a group called Citizens of Easton, which opposes the plan and instead wants the land along South Park Avenue to be preserved.
SHU wants to build a new swimming pool complex on the land and has offered $7 million for the plot.
Critics say the facility would destroy the rural, quiet atmosphere of the community.
Two officials say no final agreement has been reached.
The Board of Selectmen stresses that it's focused on making sure any potential sale of the property does not compromise the town's character.
