Monday marked the sixth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which caused massive flooding, destruction and power outages across southwestern Connecticut.

The effects of that storm can still be seen today, particularly along Fairfield's beachfront. It was once made up of many of capes and ranches, but now hundreds of homes have been elevated or completely rebuilt.

In Fairfield, officials say Sandy caused damage to more than 1,000 homes - six even got washed out to sea.

Hundreds of trees came down and more than 5,000 people had to be evacuated.

Kathy Niznansky says her home was so flooded that she was out of it for three months. She says it wasn't until last year that she was finally able to get it raised.

There are still homes set for demolition, others being worked on, and people fighting to get reimbursed by FEMA.

But officials say the town has recovered and is more prepared for when the next storm hits.
