Officials say all three elevators at the Bridgeport Mental Health Center on Central Avenue are back up and running after an outage featured
last week on News 12.
State Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, who advocated on behalf of patients, said she's grateful to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Service (DMHAS) for working closely with her to address the chronic problem of elevator outages at the nine-story building.
"They're fully up and running, and I would really like to thank the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services for being very responsive to this incident," Gadkar-Wilcox said.
DMHAS also issued a statement:
"DMHAS is acutely aware of the critical role these elevators play in ensuring safe and reliable access for patients and staff.
When situations like this one occur, facility maintenance staff and OTIS technicians are dispatched immediately, and the Office of the Commissioner is notified to coordinate the response.
At present, all elevators are now operational.
At the Bridgeport facility, it is our plan is to replace all three elevators consecutively.
The design phase for this project is nearing completion.
Until these new elevators are in operation, we will continue partnering with OTIS to maintain operability of the current elevators."
