Former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart has returned more than $183,000 in unused public campaign funds after ending her campaign for Connecticut governor.

State campaign finance filings show Stewart refunded the surplus money to the state’s Citizens’ Election Fund.

The filing comes as Stewart also missed a city deadline to repay legal fees related to an ongoing investigation into her spending during her time as mayor.

Stewart has denied any wrongdoing and previously said she intends to fully reimburse the city.
