An event industry coalition is pushing Gov. Ned Lamont to let them get back to work sooner.
Leslie Scotto says the pandemic is crippling her event planning business.
"I had three events canceled, and nine events postponed," she says.
Scotto isn't alone, Shiran Nicholson is in the music and entertainment business, and also owns the Knowlton in Bridgeport.
He says he's in the same position.
"It's been two months where no revenue is coming in, and there's no new booking coming in either," Nicholson says.
That's why Nicholson started the Facebook group '
Event Industry Coalition CT,' as a way to let the governor know they mean business when it comes to their businesses.
"Right now, we can't do anything outside. So I'm happy that in two weeks we can. But to me, the plan just doesn't make any sense to me."
Gov. Lamont rolled out plans for phases 2 and 3 of reopening the state, which will allow for outdoor events of no more than 50 people stating on June 20.
Phase 3 could begin at least four weeks later, and would allow outdoor events of up to 100 people.
If all goes according to plan and virus-related hospitalizations continue to drop, Lamont says indoor event spaces and venues could reopen.
Scotto says it's welcome news, but the industry is still hurting.
"It's OK for restaurants to have 50 people inside, but it's not OK for an event to have 50 people inside, even if we follow the same guidelines?"
