Stamford is nearly 3,000 miles away from Los Angeles, but that’s not stopping one local organization from helping out those who've been affected by the wildfires.
Americares in Stamford has thousands of donated medical supplies, like hygiene kits, masks and respiratory medication ready to ship for those who need it most.
“We’ve been responding to emergencies all over the world for more than 45 years,” Americares spokesperson Donna Porstner says. "In times of crisis, every little bit helps."
The organization is currently offering assistance to more than 70 partner health clinics located in the path of the devastating wildfires.
Porstner says due to the poor air quality from the fires, the immediate need for masks and respiratory medication grows by the hour.
"What we often find, especially in a situation like these wildfires where people evacuate quickly," Porstner says. "They often leave their homes with some of the medication they need, but not all of it or they leave it behind."
