Experts believe gas prices in Connecticut will continue to rise through Memorial Day. 

Triple-A says prices have climbed six weeks in a row. Nationally, the average price per gallon is $2.61, and in Connecticut, the average price per gallon is $2.75. Triple-A says that is 35 cents higher than a year ago.

Triple-A points to global tension and strong demand coupled with high crude oil prices for pushing gas prices into territory that hasn't been seen for some time, aside from during Hurricane Harvey last September.

Drivers in Connecticut have more pain at the pump than most of the country, though. The state is ranked ninth for highest prices.

From 2011 through 2014, prices at the beginning of the year were well over $3. The last time prices were under $3 was in 2010.
