Police say the suspect, now identified as 42-year-old William Johnson, pointed what appeared to be a handgun at tellers and demanded cash.
Detectives on the scene at Key Bank determined there was no handgun involved, however, the suspect insinuated that he possessed a firearm.
The suspect was described as a white man who left the bank in a gray-colored taxi that was last seen heading north on Mill Plain Road.
Officers and detectives say they worked with area taxi companies to track down a taxi matching the description and located the suspect near East Main Street in Bridgeport.
