Fairfield campers take precautions to cope with heat
With high temperatures scorching southwestern Connecticut, summer camps across the area are taking extra precautions.
At one Fairfield camp, located at the Osborn Hill Elementary School, campers are playing in the sun but taking it easy. Supervisors say they have the kids doing more low-impact activities.
The campers are also taking water breaks every 10 minutes and sitting in the shade when they're not active. Supervisors say the campers' health is their first priority.
?We?ve been telling them to refill their water bottles. They should refill their water bottles as much as possible,? Camp Leader Ashley Carothers said. ?We tell them to take them outside when they?re going to be out in the heat running around.?
Some campers cooled down by participating in low-impact activities, such as tie-dying. When they are not participating in any activities, they are instructed to stand in the shade.
It looks like campers will have to face one more hot day Wednesday before temperatures cool down on Thursday.
