? Residents along Route 136 are concerned about lifting a truck ban on the road.
Last fall, Fairfield police wrote the Department of Transportation requesting the state review the ban and consider allowing truck passage. Now, the Fairfield Police Department seems to be changing its position.
People living along the route say they worry about safety if trucks are allowed on the windy, two-lane road, and Easton?s first selectman says many community members have asked for the ban to stay in place.
Fairfield Deputy Police Chief Gary MacNamera says his department originally proposed the idea after finding no trucks driving the road illegally.
However, Fairfield police say they have heard the concerns of residents and will no longer ask the state to allow trucks on Route 136 through Fairfield. In fact, they say they will soon request the DOT leave the signs posted.
