Many of the kids at the Hall Elementary School in Bridgeport have never played hockey let alone seen it – but thanks to a high school senior, they're getting a big opportunity.
John Vallilo is a captain on the Fairfield co-op hockey team and goes to Fairfield Ludlowe High School. He came up with the idea of growing the sport of hockey with kids in the inner city.
On Monday, he was at Hall Elementary to show off his skill and the sport to grades 3-6.
"I find so much joy in reaching the kids and seeing the smile on their faces and hearing the screams of joy for an hour,” he told News 12.
Vallilo's program is called Chance to Play. He's working with USA Hockey and the Bridgeport Islanders to hopefully get some equipment for the students so they can make it easier to play.
