Fairfield marked the start of its Hanukkah celebration Sunday with stores along Post Road transformed into a holiday village.
The Chabad of Fairfield hosted the annual tradition.
The event was held on the Sherman Green and featured a 12-foot menorah and what organizers call "a deep reverence for tradition."
"Hanukkah's about taking light and spreading it outward, each of us doing our part," Chabad of Fairfield Rabbi Shlame Landa said, "We have to stand tall and strong against hatred, against darkness, and we do that by each of us by sharing our light and making this world a better place -- and that's what we celebrate on Hanukkah and that's what I call on everyone to do."
Landa told News 12 that hundreds turned out for the annual event, which was free and open to the public.
