Fairfield native Mac Forehand will be participating in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

The 20-year-old Team USA free skier grew up in Southport. 

"He really wanted to be a free skier, so he was in the parks all the time," Ann Marie Forehand says.

Mac spent his high school years at Stratton Mountain School in Vermont where his parents have a winter home.

When he was 17, he made the U.S. Free Ski Team.

Last month, he announced he would be heading to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Ann Marie Forehand says her son won the Chrystal Globe in 2019 and he'll be competing with the same mindset he's had from the start-- just have fun.

"He said getting a gold or medal of any sort would be life-changing for him. But he just wants to experience it all and have a great time," Ann Marie Forehand says.

She says her son will compete in the qualifying round on Monday.
