People living at the intersection of Lynnbrook Road and Lewis Drive in Fairfield are still recovering from flood damage they saw Tuesday night.
Many area residents have flooded basements, leaving those without flood insurance unsure about what to do next.
Residents say the flooding happened extremely fast -- some had water swoop in through their garage and pour into their basement.
On Wednesday, the Fairfield Fire Department helped those with flooded homes by providing important information and addressing safety concerns.
While residents say they are grateful for the help, they expect the recovery process to be a slow one.
"I've lived here since 1982, never a drop of water in my garage," says Fairfield resident Michael Zaleta. "That river has never overflowed and yesterday it was just a disaster. I had 6 feet of water in my basement. The water in the driveway went up to the street."
Residents say they have lived through two hurricanes in Fairfield and have never seen damage like this.
