Fairfield Police Officer Mike Guilfoyle has been recognized for his days playing professional baseball.
"In my years in the minors, I faced a lot of good guys. I faced guys like Derek Jeter and Jim Thome," said Guilfoyle.
Guilfoyle grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1990.
By 1998, he was part of the very first Bridgeport Bluefish team.
"People loved us. We led the league in attendance the first five years," said Guilfoyle.
Guilfoyle became one of the greatest relief pitchers in Bridgeport Bluefish history. He was part of the Bluefish team that won the league title in 1999.
Guilfoyle is now in select company. He's been named to the Atlantic League Silver Anniversary Team.
"It means a lot. It does. I mean, it's 25 years down the road, but it's a nice honor and baseball's a part of me and it's never going to go away," said Guilfoyle.
When Guilfoyle left the game in 2003, he became a Fairfield police officer.
"In the police academy, they asked me why did you become a police officer. And I said, 'Well, the last pitch I've thrown hasn't landed yet,'" said Guilfoyle.
Guilfoyle has been a Fairfield officer for 20 years, but he's still ready to play ball.
Guilfoyle says he may retire in a few years and move to Florida to watch baseball.
