Fairfield police reminded the public Monday about their "If you love ‘em, don't leave ‘em" campaign about hot vehicles.

Police say 100 signs with the slogan are scattered throughout Fairfield to remind people to check their cars after parking.

A few dozen more signs were put up just this year.

When the car is left in the sun, even on a 70-degree day, the car gets over 100 degrees in less than 30 minutes, officials say. 

Since the effort started in 2015, police say the number of heat-related incidents involving cars has gone down.

A pair of baby twins died last week after they were left inside a hot car in the Bronx. 

Police say business owners can get a free sign by calling Fairfield Animal Control at 203-254-4857.
