Fairfield Public Schools ban e-bikes on school grounds following rise in injuries

As hospitals across the area see an increase in e-bike related injuries, one Connecticut school district is actually banning them.
Fairfield school officials say e-bikes, e-scooters, and other motorized vehicles will be prohibited on school property for anyone under the age of 16 who doesn't have a driver's license.
"There's definitely some good and bad to it," Fairfield PS student Jonathan Araujo says. "There are definitely problems with these bikes, but if you're riding respectfully and safely, then I feel like it shouldn't really matter."

Injuries include head and brain injuries, broken bones, major cuts and burns and more.
"If we can culturally embed safety behaviors," Dr. Shea Gregg says. "That's going to get us more mileage over the long term."
Health experts say everyone should be wearing helmets, regardless of age.
Dr. Gregg says solving the problem will come down to education, and it will take the entire community.
"I think we need to come together as a community if we're going to ultimately make change," Dr. Gregg says. "I can tell you trauma centers are all in when it comes to supporting the community for this education."
