The Fairfield school district has shifted to all in-person learning, beginning today.
"I felt like I was in outer space, and I was flying in a rocket ship," said McKinley Elementary third grader Ada Kaplan. "I feel like I was the first person on the moon."
The entire district has shifted to in-person learning five days a week.
Many parents News 12 spoke to say they have patiently waited for this day.
"Staying in the house all winter in the cold weather wasn't too good," said McKinley Elementary parent Erol Kaplan.
"It's almost like putting them in a prison, you take away all the things they like -being with friends, doing sports," said  Jim Kuczo.
It's something the Kuczo family saw firsthand with their son Kevin. The 17-year-old Fairfield Warde junior died by suicide last month.
"I have no doubt that the remote learning and COVID lockdowns had a hand in playing in his decision to take his life," Kuczo says.
Sen. Tony Hwang joined Kuczo and the president of the Child and Family Guidance Center today to also plead for all school districts in the state of Connecticut to reopen fulltime.
"This is the worst club to be in, nobody wants to be in it. Please, there is a mental health tsunami coming, and we need to address it quickly," Kuczo says.
According to a recent study, the CDC says a quarter of young adults 18 to 24 had suicidal thoughts amid the pandemic.
