It's officially summer, and Make Music Fairfield wants to make sure you know it. Every year on the summer solstice, musicians from all over the state come to Fairfield and play their music for free.

The 12-hour festival featured 100 performers, 18 venues, and more than 70 performances. This is its ninth year.

"It's the longest day of the year. So we're celebrating all the sunshine and the shortest night. And the music just helps you to feel that joy and celebration," said Louisa Heumann, coordinator of the festival.

Sadie Zabar, a 15-year-old singer and songwriter, participated in the festival this year.

"It's definitely a bit stressful trying to balance school and like homework and all the other music stuff in the world, but it's enjoyable and I like doing it," Zabar said.

Two pianos donated by Fairfield residents were weatherized and placed around the town for anyone to play. They'll be available until July 21.
