A Fairfield teen got to broadcast a game of ESPN’s Little League World Series last week.
Aiden Blanc, 16, says he’s used to doing broadcasts at his high school with a maximum audience of about 40 people. But last Wednesday, ESPN’s Kidscast drew in 280,000 viewers.
“I think at one point, we were actually trending on Twitter,” Blanc says. “That was a surreal moment for somebody that's 16. The amount of positive feedback we had was so incredible.”
This praise also came from Karl Ravech, who led ESPN's coverage of the Little League World Series.
News 12 originally met Blanc eight years ago at a Bridgeport Bluefish game. There, Blanc used a voice recorder to pretend to be a sportscaster for the game.
Now, Blanc says he looks forward to the opportunities the experience has opened for him to pursue his dream job of professional sportscasting.
“Getting to make those contacts and going down at such a young age,” he says, “it absolutely is going to help me in the future.”
On Tuesday, the Town of Fairfield will honor Blanc and the four Little League Champion teams. The celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Sherman Green Gazebo.
