The towns of Fairfield and Trumbull have reopened some of their recreational spaces beginning today.
Fairfield's First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick has decided to open up beaches, lakes and marinas, but for "passive" recreation only.
Under new guidelines, Kupchick says beachgoers are not allowed to gather in groups or bring beach chairs and coolers to the shoreline.
"We're going to have officers on the beach, some on vehicles, and other officers walking the beach," Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras says.
The parking lots at Penfield Beach will remain closed, and there will be limited parking at Jennings, Sasco and Southport beaches from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and residents are required to have a 2020 beach sticker.
Access to Fairfield's Lake Mohegan will require a sticker or proof of residency to park, and South Benson Marina parking lot also requires a slip.
The town of Trumbull reopened Twin Brooks and Old Mine parks today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for "passive" recreation only.
Town officials say residents will need a 2019-2020 parking sticker.
