The family of 70-year-old Curtis Smith, Sr. of Bridgeport says their hearts are broken.
"We still can't believe he's gone. We loved him so much and we still can't believe he's gone," said Curtis Smith, Jr.
Police say an SUV struck Smith's father in the 300-block of Capitol Avenue around 7:30 PM last Saturday, and he later died at the hospital.
Police say the driver of the SUV, who is from New York, stayed on the scene and cooperated with police.
Officials say they will not make any additional comments until they're completed their investigation.
"But that's not good enough for us," the victim's son said.
"If I had been driving a car that hit an elderly man and sent him flying, and killed him, I would have been arrested already," Smith said.
