As the fall weather approaches, local farms are prepared for a busy weekend of apple picking.
The Dingee family, who are the owners of the Blue Jay Orchids, expect this weekend to be one of the busiest for their farm.
"As the weather turns and it gets a little crispness to the air is really when people start coming out in droves," daughter Beth Dingee says.
While many arrive to pick jonna gold, ida red and red delicious apples, the family is also asking for donations to the Connecticut Food Bank.
"We are asking our customers, if they bring non-perishable food items, we'll give them $2 off any pick in your own bag," Beth Dingee says. "In return for every bin we collect, we'll give back 10 bushels of apples."
