Police are beefing up road patrols in Wilton in the wake of two recent fatal accidents on Route 7.
"We will not tolerate inattentive and aggressive driving behavior," says Chief Ed Kulhawik, of the Wilton Police Department.
The first accident claimed the life of 61-year-old Richard Ford in June after Bronx resident Robert Robinson allegedly ran a red light. Robinson was arrested Tuesday and charged with negligent homicide.
The more recent accident occurred July 1 on Route 7. Officers expect to make an arrest in relation to that case within the week.
Chief Kulhawik says construction, distracted drivers and speeders are a bad combination and the motivation for increased patrols.
"We want to send a clear message to all motorists who travel through the town that Wilton police are serious about highway safety," says Kulhawik.
