Police are searching for the person who shot a man outside his Whitehall Place apartment Friday morning.Neighbors say Derek Malabe was on his way to work around 8:30 a.m. when he was shot inside his car at Whitehall Place and Byron Avenue. Malabe was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Neighbors say Malabe was a quiet and hard-working man who lived with his aunt and his mother.Residents say the daytime shooting is a shock to the normally quiet neighborhood. They hope police will step up patrols to ensure that crime is not on the rise in the area.
