A father and son are accused of breaking into a garage in Shelton then leading police on a chase, investigators say.
The Shelton Police Department arrested 47-year-old Christopher Barretta Sr. and his 18-year-old son Christopher Barretta Jr., both of Orange on Jan. 6.
The Shelton Police Department says it received a 911 call from a Shelton homeowner who was not at home at the time, but was watching his video surveillance cameras remotely.
The homeowner informed the dispatcher that two men forcefully broke into his garage and then backed their truck in and closed the door.
Police say the homeowner told them he was actively watching the two men load the back of their truck with items from his garage while on the phone with the dispatcher.
Two Shelton officers responded to the home, and when they announced their presence from the driveway outside of the garage, Barrtetta Sr. drove his truck through the closed garage door, nearly missing an officer and his vehicle in the driveway.
A short pursuit ensued, and the two men were able to elude police.
The truck was later discovered abandoned in the backyard of a nearby house.
An investigation was conducted by detectives and after executing search and seizure warrants, they were able to build probable cause to secure arrest warrants for both Barretta Sr. and Jr.
Both men were arrested and charged with burglary in the first degree and larceny in the fourth degree.
Barretta Jr. was given a Milford Superior Court date for March 11, and released on a $10,000 bond.
Barretta Sr. was also charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, criminal mischief in the first degree and was given a Milford court date of March 16. He was released on a $10,000 bond.
