The 59-year-old man accused of robbing the People's United Bank in Darien was arraigned in Stamford's Superior Court Friday.
Police say David Maksimik, of Stamford, walked into the bank at around 11 a.m. Thursday with what appeared to be an explosive. Investigators say he then calmly handed a note to the teller, claiming he wanted money.
Police say Maksimik almost got away with the robbery, but he rear-ended another driver while leaving the scene. That driver was later able to give police a description of the car, which was found in Norwalk a few hours later. Authorities arrested Maksimik at his home.
Maksimik's bond was set at $100,000. He is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 27.
