Many Ferry Point residents say they are opposed to plans to build a homeless shelter in the neighborhood.
The closed Capri Whitestone Motel will be turned into a shelter for homeless families. It was up for sale over the summer and many say they were hoping it would be bought by a developer and have the property turned into new homes.
Many tell News 12 The Bronx they are concerned their property values will go down if a homeless shelter is built. Joann Sohmers, the president of the Ferry Point Civic Association, says the city has not been discussing plans with the neighborhood.
Community Board 10 will be holding a meeting about the shelter on Sept. 22.
