Community members in Milford gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of the Jonathan Law High School student who was killed at school by a classmate two years ago.

The second annual "Peace, Love and Music from Maren Festival" was held to benefit a scholarship in Maren Sanchez's honor. Sanchez was fatally stabbed by a classmate at the school in 2014.

Last year, more than 3,000 people attended and more than $55,000 in scholarships went to students at both of Milford's high schools, News 12 is told.

Saturday's event started with a 5K race and features live music all day. There were also inflatables for kids, plus crafts booths, a kickball tournament and food trucks.

As News 12 reported, Christopher Plaskon recently took a plea deal to get 25 years in prison for killing Sanchez. He could get parole after 13 years. Prosecutors said Plaskon stabbed her after she rejected his prom invitation.

Sanchez's family last month announced plans to sue the school and Plaskon's family for allegedly failing to intervene and protect Sanchez after she complained about his behavior to the school's guidance department.
