At least 12 adults and nine children are displaced after a fire consumed a multifamily home Wednesday morning.
Bridgeport firefighters were on the scene of the blaze at 511 Berkshire Ave. around 6:45 a.m.
Officials say more than 30 firefighters were dispatched to fight the fire. They say the heat and smoke were so intense that firefighters who initially went inside the building had to retreat outside and continue fighting the fire from there.
Police say that the residents of one of the apartments were scheduled to be evicted at 10 a.m. but would not comment about any possible connection between that and the fire.
The American Red Cross is working with families affected by the fire.
Officials say no one was hurt.
