Police say a Bridgeport family was left homeless after a late night fire destroyed their three-story house.
Fire officials say the flames broke out shortly before midnight Saturday at 70 Eaton St. According to firefighters, the house sustained extensive damage in the rear of the structure. Firefighters say no one was home when the fire began and the family?s two pets safely escaped on their own.
One firefighter was injured after he fell on some ice on the property, but he was treated at the scene. Fire authorities say their efforts were hampered by the ice and cold weather, though they were successful in extinguishing the flames in a timely manner.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
