Fire officials: Smoke condition caused Monroe Big Y to close early, reopened on time Sunday

Fire officials received a report around 6:45 p.m. that there was smoke inside the refrigerator compressor room.

The Big Y Supermarket in Monroe opened at its normal hours Sunday after it closed early Saturday night due to smoke condition inside the store.
Fire officials received a report around 6:45 p.m. that there was smoke inside the refrigerator compressor room.
Customers and employees were evacuated and the store was forced to close.
Firefighters isolated the issue with the compressor and remained on scene for nearly two hours to ventilate and monitor hazards.
