Three people suffered minor injuries and about 30 were left homeless after a two-alarm fire ripped though two buildings on Intervale Avenue early Friday morning.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene at around 3:30 a.m. say the blaze started on the third floor of the apartment complex, located at 1080 Intervale Ave. Neighbors say smoke alarms in the buildings were not working, and that they heard tenants banging on doors, alerting each other to get out.
?That makes me feel so bad because it's going on in my neighborhood, and my family can't do anything to help them,? says Sujhey Thomas, who lives next door.
People who were forced out of their homes by the fire were put up by the Red Cross for two days until they find a new permanent residence.
Fire officials say they have yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
